What Are Wine Windows

Florence’s wine windows are a unique cultural phenomenon that dates back to the 1600s. At the time, wine merchants sold their wine directly through these small windows to avoid taxes.

Today, over 150 of these windows remain, many in the historic center of Florence. Some are still operational, allowing you to enjoy a glass of wine just as the Florentines did centuries ago.
